What's Included

• 11 wooden crown blocks, sizes 54–64 cm
• 11 fitted, removable 1-inch wooden die plates (formillons), one for each crown block
• One matching capelli brim block

Each die plate is part of its complete block, but it detaches and can also be used separately as a die/formillon during blocking and finishing work.

The neutral open-crown profile can be shaped into fedora, cowboy, pork pie, gaucho and other crown styles.

Type 51 vs. Type 52

Type 51 has a softer, rounded top and a classic open-crown profile. Type 52 has a flatter, more defined top with a slightly sharper profile. Both can be shaped into fedora, western, pork pie and other crown styles.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Developed by Mad in Brooklyn with our specialist Italian artisan. Crafted from linden wood or European poplar, selected for its smooth, workable surface and suitability for pinning, steaming and shaping. Each block is carefully finished and protected with polyurethane lacquer to help protect the wood during normal millinery use.

Height & Customization

The standard block height changes with the selected circumference so every size maintains the intended proportions. If you need a different height or a modified profile, contact Mad in Brooklyn before ordering. Custom requests must be confirmed before production and may affect the price and production time.

Production Time

This set is made to order. Please allow approximately 4–5 weeks before shipment. Large quantities, custom heights and modified profiles may require additional time.

Care Instructions

Before steaming or blocking, cover the wooden surface with plastic wrap or a thin protective film. After use, allow the block to dry completely. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, strong heat and excess moisture.
